Carbon Absorption Equivalent (30-Year-Old Pine Trees)
The equivalent effect of 30-year-old pine trees was calculated using the standard carbon absorption data for major forest tree species in accordance with the IPCC Guidelines.
This calculation is based on Standard Carbon Absorption of Major Forest Tree Species (ver. 1.2) by Lee Seon-jeong, Lim Jong-su, and Kang Jin-taek (National Institute of Forest Science, 2019).
The annual CO₂ absorption per tree was set at 8.6 kg CO₂ per tree per year, which represents the average absorption capacity of pine trees in the Gangwon and Central regions of Korea.
Definition of kgCO₂e
kgCO₂e (kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent) refers to the total greenhouse gas emissions converted into the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide. This includes six greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), nitrous oxide (N₂O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆).
